As some of you might know, there has been a global semiconductor shortage for a while. While it ebbed and flowed, we were mostly able to work within its limits, making sure our customers felt it as little as possible.

Unfortunately, the shortage has finally caught up to us. Unexpectedly, most of our Teensy++ 2.0 board suppliers cancelled their deliveries to us. This is why a few days ago we greatly increased the wait time in our store.

But it’s not all bad news! We have been working on our custom PCB (the computery bits that power the keypad), so we have a lot more flexibility and no longer depend on Teensy board availability. While the physical board itself is finished, we are still working on the software and firmware. Our original plan was to make the switch to our custom board sometime this fall (2022). But the aforementioned issues with supply are forcing us to reconsider.

After lengthy discussions within the team, we decided not to make our customers wait months for their keypads and to start using our new boards as soon as possible (within a few weeks). We have partnered with reWASD and will be including a lifetime basic licence for this mapper with each new keypad purchased on our store until the new Azeron software and firmware are finished. This will be a great replacement to bind your keypad – it’s already been used by many members of our community for a while.

In light of this, you might miss some functions at first, including console support with mouse and keyboard (XIM will still work). But fear not – everything will be back to normal this fall, when we release our new software. Not only will it support all Azeron keypads, including ones powered by the new board, but also add new features.

This temporary transition to the reWASD is driven solely by our goal to deliver keypads to you as soon as possible.

TLDR:

Due to unexpected issues with our supplies (and the global situation), we’re running out of boards that power the Azeron keypads;
we’ve made our own board, but haven’t finished the software for it yet;
to keep reasonable production and delivery times, we decided to ship keypads with our custom board soon and provide a lifetime reWASD basic licence with new keypad purchases;
reWASD will be required to bind keys, while we finish our software;
this is only temporary, while we finish our transition;
